Be sure to experience one of these tours or just go down to the harbour and watch them weighing the large blue fin tuna that some lucky fisher was able to land!

The end of Confederation Trail is close to the cottage at Elmira where you can also find the train museum. East Point Lighthouse is also close to the cottage. They offer tours at both locations. At East Point there is a great craft shop and small restaurant. The eastern region is known for the Basin Head Beach referred to as the “Singing Sand” beach. Yes, the sand does actually sing…give it a try just scuff your feet and listen to the tune.

    Local Attractions:
The Blue Ocean Beach House is located in eastern PEI where we are famous for the 50+ beach, Hills and Harbours, red heritage roads and picturesque vista around every corner not to mention the Tuna Capital of the World…North Lake!
The Gulf of St. Lawrence is right out your door and minutes from the beach house is the North Lake Harbour, which is the Tuna Capital of the World. The beach in front of the property is a white sand beach for you to enjoy. During your stay you will experience magnificent sun rises and sun sets over the ocean with the fishing boats scattered across the vista. Lobster season in this area is May and June then the fishing charters start up where you can try your hand at jigging. Once late August arrives so does the blue fin tuna! If you get the chance to hook up a tuna they are incredible strong and can take hours to land. Close to the beach house is the Elmira Train Station museum. This is where the train would turn around and head back across the island. The last train to run on Prince Edward Island was Oct. 25th, 1969. The tracks were lifted and are now called the Confederation Trail where you walk or ride your bike across the entire island. In the winter there are parts that are designated for snowmobiles and other sections that are cleared for those that like to walk or cross country ski. Also, only minutes from the beach house you will find the East Point Lighthouse where you can walk to the top and get a 360 degree view of the area. As you travel towards the seaside town of Souris you will find the Basin Head Beach. It is listed the number one beach in Canada and number 2 in North America. Locals refer to it as the “singing sand” beach! Be sure to scuff your feet as you walk the miles of white sand beach and dunes and you will hear the sands sing… The seaside town of Souris is the second largest town in eastern PEI. There are lots of local shops where you will find local art, fresh fish, local farm products, grocery stores, liquor store, hospital, pharmacy’s and much more. In the eastern area you will find many beaches some white sand, red sand and of course our singing sands. They say that in eastern PEI you are never father then 15 minutes from a body of water. As you tour the eastern region you will see many dirt roads that most likely will take you to one of them. Take the time to explore you will be surprised by the vista’s that can’t be seen from the main roads.
