Features
There are many other beaches to enjoy in the eastern area. After Basin Head continue east
you will find the end of Prince Edward Island, East Point. The east point Lighthouse
stands tall protecting the fishermen and women from landing on the shoals. This is a place
you need to visit especially on a windy day. The waters of the Gulf of St Lawrence and
Northumberland meet to create action in the water, where the seals love to play.
The lighthouse offers daily tours, gift shop and small restaurant.
Keep on the 13A east and then west you will arrive at North Lake Harbour the Tuna Capital of the World. There are many
deep-sea fishing tours offered, beautiful beach to swim or simply walk along the shores
or wait for a giant Blue Fin Tuna to be brought to the wharf. If you feel adventurous take a tour
and try your hand at catching one of the biggest in the world or try your hand at jigging mackerel and cod.
The Elmira Train Station museum is a 5 minute drive from the North lake harbour. A miniature train
is available for the children to take a ride through the woods. Inside the museum you will learn all
about the trains that operated across Prince Edward Island. The tracks have all been removed across PEI
and the Confederation Trail was created. At the Elmira museum was considered the end of the line where
the trains use to be turned and sent back across the island.
As you explore be sure to head south along the coastal roads where you will find hills and harbours
as well as more beautiful empty beaches. Along the way discover lighthouses, island crafts, golf courses,
horse rides, deep-sea tours, red clay heritage roads, quaint villages and breathtaking picturesque views!
